Osvaldo VillazonOsvaldo Villazón, began writing articles and recording interviews for the "Excelsior" magazine, published by La Salle high school in his natal city of La Paz in Bolivia, where in 1967 he also took part in some theatrical plays obtaining with the group Estudio de Arte Dramatico the first prize in a City Festival.

After arriving in the United States in 1968, he began to immerse within the circles of theatre and journalism taking both disciplines very seriously; later he was named as the Executive Director of Casa Hispana de Bellas Artes, the oldest cultural organization in San Francisco, California until 1982.

Right after his graduation with honors in Broadcasting, he joined KDTV news department where he was noticed by his outstanding performances as journalist having being its South Bay Bureau Chief for many years. His daily reports started to have a notorious influence within the Hispanic Community, specially when he spoke about immigration issues and the rights of all immigrants. Those reports started also to call the attention to authorities and activists who little by little began to look with more respect to the Hispanic Media.

In July of 1984 he was promoted to the positions of News Director and Anchorman having the responsibility to lead all the operations for the National Democratic Party Convention's coverage; with a team of only eight workers he managed to air the most important political news stories that finally put this station with "foreign language", in the map of the Anglo-Saxon industry; but it is not until September of 1985, when the department led by Villazón, became the authority of all stations due to the continuous coverage and exclusive images of the deadly earthquake that shook Mexico City, participating also in the First Telethon with national and international link for a humanitarian reason. The main networks focused their attention in all the informative segments, and NBC local station, decided later to present a special report on the example that was given by KDTV's journalism staff. The work was rewarded by the most important prize in Communications: "George Foster Peabody". Then, other prizes and recognitions followed, awards that until then, were only given to the Anglo Media. The television in Spanish had begun its ascending race.

In 1986 another devastating earthquake, this time in San Salvador, El Salvador, and one more time, the efforts of this small journalism team are in need. Villazón moved down to the place of the tragedy, and KDTV turned again to be the center of information for the great Central American community in the Bay Area,

In 1987 he put himself voluntarily as the head of a campaign of information under the plan of amnesty for the undocumented ones, installing all the year round a weekly program with the authorities of the department of Immigration, helping this way, to thousands of immigrants to obtain the legal documents of residence. Also in this year, in a move without precedents, he is part of the television consortium of the region in order to give a complete coverage to the historical visit of the Pope John Paul II. For two days, and for twelve hours each, he broadcasted without commercial interruptions every step of this the papal visit.

In 1988, KDTV created the department of Public Relations and Villazón was named as its first Director, being also the producer and host of the program "En la Bahia", that obtains high levels of ratings thanks to the interviews of prominent figures of the caliber of Isabel Allende, Anthony Quinn, Cesar Chavez, Jaime Escalante and others.

In October of 1989 he was transferred to Los Angeles Univision Station to be in charge of the special news projects and to train new producers for KMEX local newscasts. Among the special programs under his responsibility he produced and directed "Decadencia o Superacion", Decadence or Overcoming, about the problematic of the school system, and in 1992, he wrote and directed, "Encuentro de dos Mundos", Encounter of two Worlds, about the 500 years of the discovery of America, in which, he denounces the destruction of established civilizations.

In 1994 he organized and launched the first weekend newscast, being its producer for the last seven years of permanency in KMEX, achieving the highest levels of ratings in Southern California. He also took control as producer of the community program "Sexto Dia", and in 1999 became the first producer to the political program "Voz y Voto" for the West Coast, to analyze the role of the Hispanics and their influence in the politics of the United States.

After 30 years of work with Univisión, at the end of 2005 he decided voluntarily to retire from one of biggest networks in the United States to follow new paths as Media Consultant. Nevertheless, the Mexican network, TV Azteca, hired him to produce the National Newscast for Azteca America, being part of a new innovation with Mexico: for the first time two countries joined in a daily news production utilizing all means of high technology. The program was forced to be closed in 2009, due to the economic crisis that most networks face in the United States.
