News Producer--KMEX-TV UNIVISION, Los Angeles, California. Responsible for news content, writing, format, creativity and execution. Was transferred from San Francisco Univision station in October 1989 to produce all news programs and to train and supervise newly hired producers. In 1993, responsible to organize the news operation for the weekend shows, having been it's producer for the last 7 years

1988- Oct.1989
First Public Affairs Director at KDTV- UNIVISION in San Francisco. As spokesperson for the station, responsible for all press releases, interviews, station events, and promotions. Executive Producer, writer, editor and host for the show “ En La Bahia”, being for the first time aired in prime time and recorded on location.

1984-1988
News Director, Producer and Anchorman for KDTV-SIN (UNIVISION), and occasional correspondent for National News SIN and UNIVISION. Responsible for all news operations during the Mexico's quake coverage of 1985. Responsible for all local operations, content and coverage during the 1984 Democratic Convention in San Francisco. Correspondent and responsible for all content and operations during the El Salvador's earthquake in 1986. Responsible for all operations and continuous coverage during the Pope's visit to San Francisco in 1987. Responsible for all programs, content, special assignments and information during the "Amnistia Year" in 1986 and 1987, working closely with Immigration Department when thousands of undocumented immigrants obtained the legalization in U.S.A.

1981-1984
Writer, reporter and editor for KDTV-SIN (UNIVISION), being the first journalist to organize and formally establish a permanent  Hispanic bureau in the city of San Jose, being responsible for all the South Bay news, reports and community liaison.

1978-1981
Air Switcher in master control, Editor, Cameraman, Technical Director, Director, Writer and Reporter, KDTV-SIN, subsequent to graduating in Film and Broadcasting, and obtaining an FCC first class license.

1972-1978
Executive Director of Casa Hispana de Bellas Artes, San Francisco. Host of radio cultural programs at KBRG and KQED (PBS). Guest and correspondent in Quito Ecuador at First International Theatre Festival.

1971-1972
Co-host, and co-producer ,KEMO-TV, under the program IMPACTO, the first community public affairs show in the first full time Spanish TV station in San Francisco.

EDUCATION

1977.- Graduated from School of Communications in San Francisco obtaining the First Class FCC Licence.
1976 .-Graduated with honors at City College of San Francisco, majoring in Broadcasting and Film.

AWARDS
1986.- George Foster Peabody, along with personnel of KDTV.
1986.- National Emmy Award Nomination for KDTV for community work, as result of Mexico's earthquake coverage.
1988.- Special Commendation by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. (Due to the Peabody award)
1991.- Golden Mike Award, as best news producer in Southern California.
1994.- Emmy nomination as writer, for special project at Kmex-Univision.
1996.- Emmy nomination as producer for coverage of Selena's death at Kmex-Univision.
2004.- Certificate by Congresswoman Hilda Solis, actual Secretary of Labor, for community involvement.
2005.- Emmy nomination with Kmex-Univision weekend staff , for coverage of "Redadas".

 

OTHER RECOGNITIONS

1980.- Named Outstanding Immigrant from Bolivia by Latin America Cultural Institute.
1989.- Recognition from Mexico's Consulate in San Francisco, for all years of coverage of El Grito, Cinco de Mayo specials, and involvement with Mexican community.
1989.- Received homage from Comite Mexicano Civico Patriotico in San Francisco, at their 30th anniversary, for involvement in more that ten years with the needs of Mexican and Latino community.
1988.- Recognition from El Salvador's Consulate, for all coverage of El Salvador's earthquake in 1986, and involvement in the needs of it's community.
1984-1989.- Recognitions from other Latin American Consulates, arts and community organizations.
1971.- Winner of “El Quijote de Bronce” award, for best theatre director in Spanish.

Fully bilingual, with Spanish as first language. Strong knowledge of local, state, national and international political issues with emphasis in Latin America and domestic measures that affect the Hispanic community. Full knowledge of the Latino community, having seen and participated in it’s growth and changes, socially and politically since the late 60’s. Invited from different universities to speak to students regarding news media.
